Female Athlete Research Program

Elevating health and performance for women and girls through data, research, and education

The Alliance’s commitment to advance female athlete health and performance permeates all aspects of our work. It impacts the research we conduct in each of our moonshots, our agility projects, and our educational fellowships. It drives community-building efforts, like our inaugural Female Athlete Research Meeting, and it was the impetus for our Female Athlete Science and Translational Research Program (FASTR), which is providing the latest science to coaches and athletes.

Female Athlete Science and Translational Research (FASTR) Program

Stanford’s FASTR program, in collaboration with the Women’s Health, Sports & Performance Institute, is addressing the gender gap in human performance research today. With an emphasis on the early identification of and interventions to prevent the Female Athlete Triad and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (REDs), FASTR is innovating ways to improve the health of girls and women of all abilities through athletic participation and performance. Its educational programs translate cutting-edge research into practical insights and have sparked conversations with over 1,000 female athletes and coaches.
