Purpose

We seek the unknown principles of peak performance, so that they can be translated to youth development, athletic excellence, adult resiliency, and long, healthy lifespans.

Bringing together world-class talent at Stanford to advance the science of human performance

Clara Wu Tsai and Joe Tsai are committed to improving the lives of people throughout the world through fundamental scientific research, arts and culture, and social justice programs. Their belief in the value of new knowledge to solve society’s biggest challenges motivated them to create the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance. We will explore new directions to help people thrive throughout life, building on decades of scientific research with the goal of improving human health and well-being on a global scale.

The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance at Stanford brings together Stanford’s entrepreneurial “can do” approach, innovative collaborative culture, outstanding athletic programs, and research expertise across an array of disciplines to conduct a deep, concerted study into human performance, injury prevention, resilience, and recovery. We aim to translate our findings into resources that enable everyone to achieve optimal health and well-being throughout life.

Our programs are helping us achieve our vision.

By bringing scientists, clinicians, engineers, coaches, and athletes together, we are launching an interdisciplinary effort that applies innovative science and technology to advance the science of human performance.

Creating societal impact through trailblazing research and a culture of collaboration

The impact of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance at Stanford extends far beyond the university. The Alliance is a scientific network of public and private institutions with complementary research efforts. As a vital hub of the Alliance network, the Alliance at Stanford will help maximize and accelerate connections among the moonshot research projects and innovation hubs located throughout the country.

Together, our research will have profound societal impact by promoting the active, healthy lives of individuals, reducing the economic and societal burden of chronic disease, and improving countless lives that are prematurely compromised by preventable diseases and injuries.

Clark Center: A Collaborative Space

The Clark Center serves as the physical home base of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance at Stanford. With its open lab spaces, the Clark Center was designed for collaboration. It is located at the nexus of the Schools of Medicine, Engineering, and Humanities and Sciences, and houses a variety of disciplines, making it a unique match for the goals of the Alliance at Stanford. We are located on the third floor of the South Wing.
