Five years of discovery: The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance marks a milestone
Five years ago, the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance set out with a bold goal: to transform human performance science through open collaboration and rigorous research. What has emerged is a growing global community of more than 500 scientists, engineers, and clinicians working together across six core institutions and dozens of partner institutions worldwide.
The progress has been meaningful. At Stanford alone, our researchers have uncovered new molecules that improve endurance and strengthen muscles, developed the first-ever approach to scar-free injury healing, and built AI-powered movement models. The open-source OpenCap software we created now supports thousands of researchers, coaches, and athletes in their work around the globe.
Central to the Alliance’s mission is a commitment to science that serves everyone, from elite athletes to anyone striving to live a healthier life. We are deepening our understanding of female physiology and investing in early-career scientists, many of whom are already establishing research programs at institutions like Harvard and the University of Washington.
There is much more to learn, but five years in, the foundation is strong and the path ahead is promising.
