The Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance is proud to announce its 2025 Clinician-Scientist Fellows. These individuals were selected for their outstanding potential to advance our understanding of peak performance.

The Clinician-Scientist Fellowship is a two-year program designed to support researchers who will advance our understanding of human performance through the design of novel, clinically relevant studies. It is a unique opportunity that allows fellows to devote significant time to independent research, expand their clinical and research networks, and build connections across human performance communities.

Here are our 2025 Wu Tsai Performance Clinician-Scientist Fellows:

Jacob Schrum, MD, PhD
Fellow – Division of Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine

Jacob will study how immune function relates to cardiovascular fitness. Specifically, he will examine differences in steady-state immune activation and inflammation in elite runners compared to healthy non-athletes. He will also study how elite runners’ immune activation changes over the course of a season and how these changes are related to improved cardiovascular fitness. Dr. Schrum is under the mentorship of Dr. Catherine Blish and Dr. Kiran Khush.

Corey Rovzar, PhD
Instructor of Medicine – Medicine/Stanford Prevention Research Center

Corey is testing an 8-week multi-component, remotely-guided, digital balance intervention to improve balance and fall risk in community-dwelling men and women over age 50. Her research will inform development of cost-effective, scalable interventions to improve balance, reduce the growing global prevalence of falls, preserve mobility, and facilitate aging in place. Dr. Rovzar is under the mentorship of Dr. Deborah Kado and Professor Scott Delp.
