Lab Tour
The Lab is ideally situated in the lower level of the Arrillaga Sports and Recreation Center within the Stanford Sports Medicine Clinic. Our location allows for close collaboration with Stanford Athletics, the Sports Medicine Clinic, Athletic Training, and the Rehabilitation Clinic.
The Human Performance Lab at Stanford University houses the latest in sports science testing technology, including:
- VICON 8-camera three-dimensional Motion Capture System
- Alter-G treadmill for low impact walking and running
- Three floor-mounted Bertec force plates to measure
ground reaction forces
- 16-channel Delsys electromyography system to estimate
muscle activity
- Portable and static metabolic carts (Schiller and
Cosmed) to measure oxygen consumption (VO2 Max) and
lung and cardiac function
- High-speed treadmill
- Mobile 12-lead electrocardiograms (EKG)
- Holter Monitors to track cardiac function for up
to 48 hours
- Mobile Spirometry system to assess lung function
- Portable ultrasound for obtaining echocardiograms and musculoskeletal
assessment
- iDXA scanner for body composition and bone mineral density
measures
- High-speed video cameras, capable of capturing video at 1200
frames/sec
- siliconCOACH video analysis equipment for on-field
analysis of sport-specific activities
- Portable GPS equipped Heart Rate Monitors for assessing performance
during on-field exercise
- Instrumented force plate treadmill (Bertec) with
split belts for continued measurement of ground reaction forces
during walking and running
